Tomorrow marks the first Downtown Art Walk of 2009. It happens that January is also L.A. Arts Month, a civic and private partnership designed to encourage the exploration of art in Los Angeles.

|Photo Gallery| The last Downtown Art Walk of 2008 took to the streets last night. The quieter night saw some changes, some bigger than others. At 6th and Main, a new hub took shape, complementing the Art Walk's traditional center one block north. While Wednesday's temps neared 100 degrees, Thursday's high of 75 will dip to 70 at a 6:26pm sunset, which means the cool of October's Fall weather will blanket the Downtown Art Walk. Take the walk or ride the moving Vaudeville show known as the Hippodrome to the corners of Gallery Row.
However you travel the mean streets of Downtown, we hope you make "Take It To The Bank" a stop. Come visit, say hello, enjoy the music and bring a t-shirt to get screen-printed. It's Art Walk, and, as usual, the attendee has a plethora of options for this fine Thursday night. — Continued Inside...

|Photo Gallery| Swatches of irony unfolded at the September Art Walk as Downtown provided content for several galleries. A developer became a gallerist, one homeless activist group continued its fight via a show featuring art and poetry, while another was featured in shows at two different venues.
The first cooler Art Walk of the fall brought what was perhaps a calmer crowd, but numbers were still very high.

Only a few years ago, Downtown felt empty at night, especially in August. With SIGGRAPH 2008 and the Downtown Film Festival LA in town and the Comedy Walk continuing its stride at various venues near 5th and Spring, it's safe to say that the August Downtown Art Walk may see the biggest evening crowds yet. |Photo Gallery| The July Downtown Art Walk saw continued growth, with more people on the streets of the Historic Core. While there's no official count, the crowds were estimated to be the largest ever for Downtown Art Walk.
Councilman José Huizar explored Gallery Row after welcoming Phyllis Stein Art to his district and to Downtown. The champion for the Bringing Back Broadway initiative has spent lots of time exploring active urban centers outside of Los Angeles, and liked what he saw on the Downtown streets. — Continued Inside...

The Downtown Art Walk is upon us once again. It's July, and the walk will be a summer affair that brings the event its longest day of the year, by one minute. Sunset on June 12 was at 8:06pm and the July 10th sunset will be at 8:07pm. It will be 72 degrees when the sun fades away and dip to 69 degrees at 11pm. For those new to Downtown, Main Street is the split for addresses East and West.
Phyllis Stein Art debuts its new gallery with a ribbon cutting and artist opening reception. Council member Jose Huizar cuts the ribbon for the grand opening. Then artist Eric Small's "Press 1 for English" explores geometry with complex paper sculpture and Jesse Chapo's "Stateside" touches on themes of American ideas in a playful and compelling way. 207 W. 5th / Ceremony at 6pm / Artists reception from 7-10pm — Continued Inside...
