L.A. Live, the $2.5 billion entertainment complex rising next to Staples Center, is home to the Nokia Theatre, the GRAMMY Museum, Club Nokia, Conga Room, Lucky Strike, ESPN Zone, New Zealand Natural Ice Cream, The Farm of Beverly Hills, Fleming's Prime Steakhouse, Lawry's Carvery, Yard House and Rock'N Fish.

Coming in 2009 are Katsuya, Rosa Mexicana, Trader Vic's, Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill and Regal Cinemas.

Given the state of the economy, it should not be much of a surprise that the 550 jobs soon to be created at L.A. Live's J.W. Marriott and Ritz Carlton are a hot commodity. Advertised for less than three weeks, 6,100 applications were received for the hotels' hourly positions.

Sorting through all those candidates is a job that now falls to a team led by Rick Spade, the hotels' Director of Human Resources. In a pair of hiring events this weekend and next, 1,200 candidates will be interviewed, with jobs offered on the spot. — Continued Inside...

Downtown's new Regal Cinemas is offering another free movie night on Thursday, this time targeted at USC students. The event is part of the venue's week-long transition away from wall-to-wall Michael Jackson screenings and toward normal operation.

The debut screening took place inside the new venue's 806-seat Premiere House, designed to lure such events away from Westwood and Hollywood.
