Welcome Back Brockman Eric Richardson

The Brockman, West Millennium Group's project at the corner of 7th and Grand, is finally out in the open. Over the past two days, the wooden canopy covering the sidewalk and hiding the building from view has been removed. As with other unveilings, its removal makes for a startling change in the feel of the corner.

It was last February that the black shroud covering the building's upper floors started coming down. The building has been under construction for longer than many residents have lived Downtown, so for many this is a first view of the ground floor of a remarkable 1921 structure.

The project will be participating in this weekend's Downtown L.A. Open House.

Welcome Back, Rowan

Welcome Back, Rowan Eric Richardson

Just in time for its Saturday Premiere event, the Rowan Lofts has shed its scaffolding and once again said hello to the Historic Core.

There's still much to be done. Today, construction crews are hard at work installing glass into the building's window frames.

Even in the building's unfinished state, it's striking how completely the removal of the scaffolding changes the feel of the corner.

Brockman Partially Unveiled

Brockman Building Eric Richardson

Just over a year ago I wrote that the Brockman building had been shrouded so long I had forgotten what it looked like. Finally, after at least two years under wraps, the building is starting to emerge. The upper floors are currently visible and show just how much interesting architecture this building brings to 7th street.

I put together a set of nine shots I took of the building this afternoon. The shots show two sets of rounded window spaces that are going to be amazing when the units are finished. The corner of the building looks to be spectacular as well.

I don't know an opening date, but even in this state it's very good to see the building back out in the open.

Pan American Lofts Revealed

Pan American Lofts Eric Richardson

This seems to be the week for buildings to be unveiled Downtown. The wooden covering came off the Mandel Lofts building this weekend and now today I biked by the Pan American Lofts to see that building's ground floor also being opened up.

It's going to take a bit for me to decide if I like that stark brown on peach color scheme. Definitely good to see construction clearing from both the Pan American and the sidewalk work across the street.

Mandel Lofts Revealed

Scaffolding Off the Mandel Lofts Eric Richardson

I have to admit there were times when I thought the scaffolding might just never come off the Mandel Lofts building. The project had dragged on and on, with no new information (other than the occasional "going a new direction with the ground floor").

There was work going on, sure, but it never seems substantive. They'd paint something, or brick in the spots for signage, but nothing that seemed important.

Then suddenly today the building emerged from its hiding. Instantly that corner looks so much better. I haven't peeked inside to see how work might be coming on that 7-Eleven, but from across the street it looks very nice. — Continued Inside...
