Rendering of AEG's proposed Farmers Field, a $1.2 billion stadium and events center project.

AEG's $1.2-billion plan for Farmers Field will be the topic of a special hearing of the State Senate's Select Committee on Sports and Entertainment this Friday, August 26.

The group is chaired by Senator Kevin de Leon, whose 22nd District includes the Convention Center site that would be cleared to make way for the proposed stadium.

Now that the City Council has given its blessing to the deal, one of AEG's key remaining hurdles is to get a deal done with the state that would protect the project from the delays posed by environmental lawsuits.

Last week, AEG CEO Tim Leiweke . Under Leiweke's proposal, challenges would be sent to a binding arbitration hearing instead of allowed to make their way through the typically slow legal system.

According to the , Friday's meeting will take place at 10am in the auditorium of the Ronald Reagan State Building at 300 S. Spring.
