4 Characterful Stays Near Crypto.com Arena, LA

Four hand-chosen stays near Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, from a Downtown hostel to quiet Huntington Park rooms, with feel before specs.

Location

I spent years on an airport apron watching tired travellers step off a long flight and head for the biggest, most anonymous hotel they could find. I have come to prefer smaller, characterful places, the kind that make a district feel like yours. Here are four I would send a friend to if they were heading for a night at Crypto.com Arena. I have chosen them for how they feel first, then for how they sit on a Downtown walking route. I have also added the November 2026 shows, the sights worth the walk, and how to get in from LAX.

The arena and the walkable grid

Crypto.com Arena sits at 1111 S. Figueroa St in South Park, beside LA Live and the Convention Center. Early November is busy: the Lakers host the Miami Heat on Monday, November 2 at 7:00 pm, and the Kings face the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday, November 4 at 7:00 pm. XG play on November 5, and Karan Aujla arrives on November 9. The GRAMMYs return on February 7, 2027. I like to treat Downtown as a grid to be walked block by block, because the arena's lots open only 90 minutes before events and allow no overnight parking. Union Station, Olvera Street and Chinatown on foot

Start where the city did. Olvera Street, free to wander, reopened as a Mexican marketplace on Easter Sunday 1930 and still holds the Avila Adobe, the oldest surviving house in town. Union Station, opened in May 1939, is the finest railway hall I have ever seen, all Mission Revival and Art Deco. Philippe the Original, serving French dips at 1001 N. Alameda St since 1908, is a few blocks away. Chinatown begins just beyond, and Las Posadas fills the street from December 16 to 24.

Stay here for Union Station and Olvera Street; you trade arena proximity for the rail hub on your doorstep. Metro Plaza Hotel is plain and warm rather than flashy, with simply styled rooms in warm-coloured linens, a gym, a tour desk and family rooms, and I would happily send a friend with children! Union Station is a 5-minute walk and City Hall 15, with on-site parking available: this Union Station hotel ->

Grand Avenue's three great doors

Uphill on Bunker Hill, Walt Disney Concert Hall (opened October 23, 2003, 2,265 seats) has a public rooftop garden. Next door, The Broad offers free general admission, with a timed ticket recommended and a separate reservation for Kusama's Infinity Mirrored Room. While the museum expands, Hope Street is closed and the Metro pedestrian bridge is shut, so use the Grand Avenue entrance from Grand Av Arts/Bunker Hill station. City Hall's observation deck is free on weekdays with ID, and the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels is close by.

Stay here for a cheerful, social base in the city centre; you trade privacy for a lounge, a shared kitchen and a washing machine. Podshare DTLA is a hostel with real character, and guests single out the comfortable beds and the public transport. City Hall is 1.2 km away and Walt Disney Concert Hall 1.8 km, so Grand Avenue is an easy walk: where to stay in Downtown LA

Broadway's market, atrium and funicular

Grand Central Market has fed Downtown since 1917, and Go Get Em Tiger opened its first café here in 2013. Across the street, the Bradbury Building (1893) hides a skylit ironwork atrium behind plain brick, though visitors usually see only the lobby. Angels Flight, a 298-foot funicular, links Hill Street to Bunker Hill; check that it is running before you plan around it. Little Tokyo is a short step east, with the Japanese American National Museum and Fugetsu-Do, selling mochi since 1903.

A November of shows within a few blocks

Beyond the arena, the neighbourhood is full of rooms worth the walk. The Regent Theater hosts Tall Black Guy on November 4 (18+) and Alborosie on November 6. The Novo has Henry Lau on November 4 and kwn on November 5, while the Teragram Ballroom has SIX60 on November 3. The Bellwether brings Wuki on November 6 and SYML on November 7, and The Belasco has Russian Circles on November 11. The Orpheum hosts Pivot on November 6, and the Ahmanson stages The Music Man on November 3. I always pick the smaller room over the stadium.

South of the center: Exposition Park

Exposition Park is the day trip I recommend. The California Science Center has free permanent galleries with Space Shuttle Endeavour. The Natural History Museum closes on the first Tuesday of each month, which is November 3. The Lucas Museum opened on September 22, 2026 and needs timed tickets. The Coliseum runs a 75-minute historic walking tour through Gate 33A, and the Metro E Line stops at Expo Park/USC. Both hotels below are in Huntington Park, about 9 km from these sights, so plan on a ride.

Stay here for a quiet, adults-only door and free parking; you trade walkability, since it is 9 km from Exposition Park and 14 km from Dodger Stadium. Lido Hotel gives each room a private bathroom, air-conditioning, a work desk and carpeted floors, with daily housekeeping, which is quietly lovely after a loud night out. See it on Google Travel ↗

Randolph Hotel Randolph Hotel Randolph Hotel Randolph Hotel Randolph Hotel Randolph Hotel Randolph Hotel Randolph Hotel Randolph Hotel Randolph Hotel Randolph Hotel Randolph Hotel Randolph Hotel Randolph Hotel Randolph Hotel

Stay here for a thrifty, tidy hostel base near Exposition Park; you trade en-suite comfort for shared bathrooms. Randolph Hotel is simple and kind, and guests praise its cleanliness and the friendly English-speaking reception. Each room has a microwave, TV and wardrobe, and Union Station is 10 km away: read the reviews ↗

Arriving well from LAX

LAX is about 26 km from the centre. The question travellers asked me most was "what is the fastest way into town?" The honest answer is that it depends on traffic. The FlyAway coach to Union Station takes roughly 35 to 60 minutes and takes cards only, so confirm the current run. Free shuttles reach the LAX/Metro Transit Center for the K and C lines, and taxis and ride-hail leave from the LAX-it lot east of Terminal 1, where staff can point you to the taxi queue. The SkyLink people mover is still not open. Union Station puts you beside Metro Plaza.

Choosing yours

If you want trains, history and a calm doorstep, I would take Metro Plaza. If you want a sociable, walkable stay in the city centre, Podshare is my pick for Grand Avenue. Choose the Lido or the Randolph when quiet or thrift matters more than walking to the arena. For more options, browse all accommodations in Los Angeles or hotels and apartments across the city. Prices and availability can change, so confirm when booking, then choose the one that fits your Los Angeles!
