I dislike the loud music, esp. when it runs until 11pm and we have to get up for work.

Also, Eric, is The Must open? Rosslyn Lofts has a sign up saying yes.

All loud music should be shut off by 10 pm by the police, I have been told. I think there must have been 30,000 people out tonight.

I don't like the loud music either, it's overbearing and very little quality, at some points just become a nasty cacophony.

The loud music ruins long stretches of Spring Street for many of us; it also makes it clear that for many attendees it's the monthly bar hop rather than the monthly art walk. Monthly Bar Hop for those who want it would be a fine accompaniment to Monthly Art Walk, but the insanely loud music ruins significant parts of Monthly Art Walk for those of us who come downtown for the latter.

agree the music this month was out of control. I am in the 600 block of spring and it all went way past 10pm.

People downtown do want a vibrant and lively city, but the problem is forcing everyone else to be subjected to one person's choices of music or the degree of volume. It's really a suburban idea that the city needs to be unnecessarily loud, and you really see this now at Art Walk with yahoos from the burbs screaming at the top if their lungs when they walk down the street late at night. It's not in their worldview to even think that there are people living right above.

It's still a weeknight, and when I started Art Walk it was meant to be completely over by 10 pm so as not to disturb people who did not choose to participate. Subsequent leadership felt differently. The community has a voice in this, but there are a lot of people who take it upon themselves to create events that can be inappropriate, outside of the structure of the event.

Anyway, overall it's still a good thing for downtown. I am hoping to get an economic study started soon that quantifies the amount of direct investment in downtown LA that has come from Art Walk. I expect it to be huge.

I'm sure overly loud music can be a nuisance. But it is mainly a once-a-month issue. I'd think the bigger dilemma for more people is what I often notice when I'm in downtown. And that is just how uncomfortably empty and lifeless so many of its sidewalks are. Even worse, how far too many of the few people who are wandering around downtown in the evening are quite clearly in the beggar or homeless category.

Besides, who knows how long the still rather brief existence of the Art Walk will last? I read another article from someone who attended the event last night and he said it reminded him of a similar type of affair in Westwood over 20 years ago. That all vanished rather quickly, due in part to a young woman being gunned down while strolling around the area. Westwood's version of Art Walk ended in spite of that part of LA not even being as crusty and infamous as downtown was or still is.

I personally love the loud music, even though I almost never stop to listen. I just love the effect of moving from place to place, different sounds fading in and out, some right on target, others very out of place. Makes for a very unique experience.

artwalk is dead. there are only a few quality galleries and the ones that are still here wont open during peak hours. what we have now is a monthly arts and crafts food fair. next logical step is to bring in the carnival rides. saw gilmore out front of his building, and he looked estatic, because more foot traffic means more potential renters. really since pharmaka left things have taken a very commercial turn that is disappointing.

Keep in mind that Art Walk starts at noon, not at 6 or 7 pm. The serious galleries are still open in the daytime, and that's when any serious art people still come by. It's OK if the nighttime becomes more of the party crowd; it just means there is something for everyone.

Things evolve the way the evolve, it's impossible to control it. With the changes we are seeing in the Art Walk, we are seeing a comparable change in the neighborhood. It's about more than the galleries now, and that's a very good thing.

thank you. this is not only true on art walk thursday nights. as i live two stories up from the association, cole's, across from las perlas, and down from mignon (and moved here 5 years ago, before any one of them was in full swing, never being told we'd end up with 4 bars on 6th b/t main and los angeles), i can attest to this. it's the responsibility of the business owners to treat neighborhood residents with respect, and we who pay good rent to live here should settle for nothing less. our visiting suburbanites certainly wouldn't put up with it in their neighborhoods.

if the residential building owners want to keep their properties desirable and filled, they should protect the interests of their residents by working in concert with their fellow business owners, setting -- and enforcing -- higher, more respectful standards.

drink and be merry, DTLA bar hoppers! but keep it to yourself when you're out on our streets. and, oh yeah, whatever you do: don't drive.

Saturday night on Spring was as obnoxious and gross as Thursday night on Spring. It's not even worth hitting up the food trucks anymore. Hard to say where they all come from but it seems the same kind of crowd who enjoys places like City Walk and Knott's Berry Farm on 2-for-1 days.

That crowd from the Exchange was the pits. And yes, it's starting to recall those days in Westwood that led up to the shooting. Horny, dumb boys desperate to flex their muscle and pick a fight, then find someone to date rape. Not a surprise that kid got beat up so bad that paramedics had to come. Jerry Springer culture.

Hard to believe that birth certificates are issued when people like that enter the world.

The noise volume is out of control. The Los Angeles Theatre Center sits in between two residential buildings. During art walk, this theatre turns their small front space into an outdoor venue and host different rock bands who continue playing after 10pm. Art Walk makes me want to leave town when it rolls around every 2nd Thursday of the month.

Here is Councilwoman Jan Perry's office number . Residents of downtown shouldn't have to tolerate such extreme noise level. I would take a film crew over Art Walk any day.
