Cement Truck Upended By Arts District Ramp

The driver of a concrete mixer got more of a ride than he had bargained for on Saturday morning as his cab fell through a ramp leading to the roof of an Arts District warehouse.

The truck was left with its nose pointed straight into the air, and several cubic yards of concrete poured into the business below.

The driver was treated by paramedics and transported to Los Angeles County USC Medical Center, but was described as having only minor injuries.

Officials from the city's Department of Building and Safety were called to supervise the truck's removal from the building at 1248 E. Palmetto.

Imagine what happens to all the parking facilities during a bad earthquake.

On what planet does it make sense to drive a full concrete truck on your roof?

Sounds like a really bad college prank gone wrong.

I'm a DTLA resident visiting family in Minnesota right now, and believe or not, this made the local news in the Twin Cities. Who would think that such a localized story could go national! I guess he couldn't find street parking...

The concrete truck was hired to build an outlaw skateboard ramp on the parking structure for the tenant next door. A pipe spanning the entrance to the ramp that limits the size of the vehicle that can enter the ramp was removed so the truck could enter the ramp. Expect the tenent next door, the contactor, and the cement company to be sued. Good luck with that release of liability.
