Cabbage Patch Jenni Simcoe

, a popular Beverly Hills lunch spot, has opened its latest location this week Downtown at 520 W. 6th. “Our concept is farm fresh fare that includes a mix of Asian, Mediterranean and American food,” said Saro Babakhanian, manager.

The restaurant is set in a stark space with a loft that will soon have a billiard table and lounge area.

“It’s a farm to table restaurant,” claims Babakhanian. “One of the restaurant’s owners, Samir Mohajer, serves as the chef and goes to the farmers’ market it Santa Monica three to four times a week to buy fresh produce,” said Babakhanian. Mohajer’s pedigree includes creating menus at The Little Door and Rustic Canyon Wine Bar.

The menu is split into sections including a wide variety of soups, salads, Asian bowls, sandwiches, pizzettes, Mediterranean plates, rotisserie chicken and sides. Sustainable meats include beef from Niman Ranch and Jidori chicken. Gourmet salads include a Fuji Apple and Arugula Salad, Chicken and Apple Salad and a French Green Lentil Salad. Sandwiches include a vegetarian Grilled Veggie sandwich, a BTLA (bacon, lettuce, tomato and avocado), and Oven Roasted Turkey Sandwich. Plates include a choice of Falafel, Beef Gyro or Chicken Kabob.

Price range from $6 for a fourth of a rotisserie chicken to $13 for the Albacore Tuna Salad. The restauant is open Monday through Friday, 11am to 6pm with Saturday and dinner hours planned to begin in January.

Great News. I loved the one in Beverly Hills when I worked there.

What more info do you need, Don. Didn't you read the word "bacon" in the article?

Shame on you, Sara Jones. That's a cruel jab at someone who has had his stomach stapled.

Don Garza on December 29, 2010, at 10:15PM – #5

Sara thanks for letting me know there is bacon on the menu. As you know, since we are both on the Paleo diet, we are always on the look out for restaurants with Paleo friendly items.

Thanks for the jab at my friend Sara, White Light.

A "pound of bacon a day diet."

The Paleo diet advocates eating LEAN meats and fish, fresh fruits, snacks, and non-starchy vegetables. Bacon is roughly 40% saturated fat. It is not a Paleo friendly item.

This is from the Paleo diet website:

"The Paleo Diet is based upon extensive scientific research examining the types and quantities of foods our hunter-gatherer ancestors ate. This nutritional plan is totally unlike those irresponsible, low-carbohydrate, high-fat, fad diets that allow unlimited consumption of artery-clogging cheeses, bacon, butter, and fatty meats. Rather, the foundation of The Paleo Diet is lean meat, seafood, and unlimited consumption of fresh fruits and veggies."

"White Light," shame on YOU. It seems I can't make a joke with a friend without the input of someone neither of us know. Don atributes much of his weight loss to a high fat/low carb diet, such as Paleo. I suggest you mind your own business, "White Light."

In the mean time, congratulations to the owners and staff of this new establishment in DTLA. I look forward to stopping by soon!

PAleo is not an excuse to live off of bacon. But saturated fats are not paleo friendly . This should answer your questions.

It seems we mix up the concept of paleo and primal. Whereas the paleo diet disdains saturated fats Primal allows for it as long as it is from organic grassfed beef not fed on grass with pesticides . Starting next month I am going to mix grassfed meats and eggs since I can't afford grassfed meats on a consistent basis , I am going to incorporate them into my diet and use the grassfed bacon before a workout for energy.

this from the paleo website: "The bottom line is that we do not recommend cutting down saturated fatty acid intake but rather decrease high-glycemic load foods, vegetable oils, refined sugars, grains, legumes and dairy.

For more information, please read Dr. Cordain's paper: Dietary Fat Quality and Coronary Heart Disease Prevention: A Unified Theory Based on Evolutionary, Historical, Global, and Modern Perspectives"

I'm off the cupcake diet, because I read (like everyone else) that 2011 is all about the pie. Sorry, Big Man.

@Sara Jones "I suggest you mind your own business, "White Light."

Sara Jones, if you want your "business" to be private, I suggest you don't throw it all out there on a public blog! Next time try sending Don a private email, dear. LOL!

How's that bacon diet working out for you?

Don Garza on December 30, 2010, at 11:00AM – #13

We know who you are WHITE LIGHT , you gave yourself away on the centeno post... so obvious..

Yes, a champion is about to be made on the 1 lb a day bacon diet , lol. Grassfed bacon of course.
