DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — It's been a busy week for detectives at LAPD's Central Division. Police are investigating a pair of unrelated homicides that occurred Downtown this week, one at 9th and Hill and the other inside a Volunteers of America facility on Skid Row.
On Wednesday morning, a man in his 40's was fatally stabbed after a fight outside the Chase ATM at 9th and Hill. Witnesses reported that there was a fight between three men, and that two fled the scene carrying trash bags.
Friday morning, a foul odor led a manager at the residential facility at 622 S. Wall to find the body of a 47-year-old man who had been dead approximately three days. Detectives confirmed the man died of blunt force trama.
The two incidents were Central Division's fourth and fifth homicides charged to 2011, though two of those incidents took place in 2010. Overall violent crime in Central Division was up 10% over 2010 as of April 9.
