Café Tacuba im Teatro Gran Rex, Buenos Aires Mandy []

A crowded stage as Cafe Tacuba plays a 2008 show in Buenos Aires.

Over the last 20 years, Café Tacuba have often been called The Beatles of Latin music. The chilango quartet has always paid tribute to its Mexican roots by incorporating such regional styles as jorocho and norteno while mixing doses of rock and ska.

On Tuesday night, November 24, the band makes its way to Club Nokia. Tickets , but we've got a pair of tickets for a blogdowntown reader who would like to see the show for free.

The band recently added a drummer to the mix and have been moving more towards the alternative hemisphere all the while grabbing Grammy awards along the way.

On Friday, the band plays to the east at Fox Theater Pomona.

Want to see the show? We've got one pair of tickets to give away. Just leave a comment telling us your favorite Café Tacuba song and why you love it so much. Make sure to include contact info via email or Facebook. Contest closes Monday at 10pm.

Cafe Tacuba COntest: My favorite tune as of late is "Volver A Comenzar" off of SIno the latest album. Cafe Tacuva break gorund again. It has a great dance beat, harmonies and always with the clever wit and lyrics. And with the producing partnership of Gustavo Santaolla it makes for a tremendous effort again by a phenomenal group.

Every Song on Cafe Tacuba's RE! i cannot stop listening to that album. lyrically i would have to say "PEZ" and " La Negrita" (saddest songs ever, the one about the fish still strikes weird notes in my heart) Musically, "esa Noche" is my favorite, soo simple and yet so romantic.

My favorite song is "desperte" because at the time, the song related to what I was going through. It made me realize that through music, one can have a piece of peace.

"Ingrata" is my favorite song by Cafe Tacuba. the blend of ska, banda & rock sounds make it a great party song despite the angry lyrics. It's no wonder that this is one of their most popular tracks. Well written. Good energy

"Volver a Comanzer" from their "SiNo" album is not only my favorite Cafe Tacuba song, but one of my favorite songs released in the 2000s. Clocking in at over seven minutes of bliss, this song is patient and detailed, reminding me of an imaginary run-in between Modest Mouse and the Beach Boys. I can imagine everything from marching militants to dancing ravers moving and grooving in sequence to its wonderful synth-and-bass beat. Even better, it reminds me of my gorgeous lover's heritage and culture as well as the introduction to Mexican music I received from my amazing Latin friends. I haven't been able to thank them enough for expanding my cultural horizons...

It's their 20th anniversary tour! So I gotta give credit to the canciones that got them started... and el baile y el salon still gets me going. A romantic song you can dance too, gender-ambiguous enough so that everyone can groove to it and dream that the men of cafeta are serenading them...

And you can't go to a concert without hearing everyone and su madre blast these lyrics from the deepest corridors of their throat. Love it. I'm excited to go. I haven't been pushed around by a mosh of all-age, alt-dressed latinas in a while.

A few years ago I had just seen them at the House of Blues on Sunset one week earlier, when I arrived in Oaxaca city by mere chance the day of their concert at the Guelaguetza auditorium. When they played 'Maria' my favorite song from their breakthough self titled album 'Cafe Tacuba', I made the 'LA' hand signs from my seat, which I had made at the HOB concert. They smiled big and made the LA signs too!!! I was sooo excited! they are seriously talented and so versatile!! my favorite band of all time!!! It would be so great to see them again :-)

I grew up in Mexico City, surrounded by the sounds that Café Tacvba uses in their music, for example, 'El Metro' from their 'Re' album which is one of my favorites, because they successfully convey the musicality of the ever adventurous D.F. metro rides. For 25 cents (USD) you can ride the entire city system whilst collecting the products sold by the random metro-sales-people. The song describes that feeling that you get when you're stuck in the middle of a metro wagon full of people, thinking that you may never get out- one of the ways to ease the ride is by thinking sweet thoughts, like your girlfriend for example! I've never seen them live, I only own all their albums!

Cafe Tacuba have a kind of childish mood that may bother some people. If there is a basic story in their lyrics is about the problem of love among younsters, the simple desire for dance, and the weird aspects of love and reality. However, their strength is their high quality as musicians. Mainly, what should be stressed is both their high capacity for styles mixture and their highly creative covers. They jump from "ranchera" to ska, or reagge , or trash , or disco. Their covers of "Ojalá que llueva café" (Juan Luis Guerra), "No controles" (Mecano) or "Cómo te extraño" (Leo Dan) demonstrate both their creativity and exploration over different kind of music. Tiempo transcurrido is probably the best example of all their "chamaleonistic" capacity. Undoubtely, one of the best recopilation in the rock en español era. Oh yeah, my favorite is Volver A Comenzar.

My favorite is the popular, Eres. While I appreciate the electronic sounds in their other songs, Eres has the cleanest, unfettered sound.
