Spring Street's LA Cafe Going 24-Hours

Just seven months after making a big push into late-night hours, Spring street's L.A. Cafe is going 24-hours starting on January 1.

In May, the little eatery extended service until 4am on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

The cafe is adding some new hours immediately, staying open until midnight Sunday through Wednesday and going 24-hours Thursday through Saturday.

Owner David Bakhshi told blogdowntown in May that going 24-hours has been his dream since (639 S. Spring;) reopened just over three years ago. Bakhshi took over the name and location from a previous ownership.

The block of Spring between 6th and 7th will soon be quite the late-night destination. Two bars are under construction on the ground floor of 626 S. Spring, and the Versus nightclub is currently in the final approval process. The block is also Downtown's most dense residential block, with seven of its nine buildings housing residents.

The SB Spring building ground floor area is absolutley amazingly. Can anyone shed some light on it's history? Obviously it was a bank due to the vault, but it looks beautiful with the staircase.

Who needs LA live (F it!) when we have Spring St. and yes syrup desserts is awesome too, hopefully they follow up on the late hours.

Is Ben's store (right next) 24/7 as well?

Is the Versus club opening then? After all that noise?

Where is the other club opening?

BTW, what's with the stupid HOA's giving everybody a hard time for partying on Friday/Saturday night?

IF YOU DON"T PARYT GET THE F' OFF OF DOWNTOWN!!!

Oscar, dear heart, I'm guessing by your flip, nonchalant attitude about neighborhood noise and quality of life issues that you are not in fact a homeowner downtown and probably not even a downtown dweller. I own at the Rowan. I'm a clubgoer, here in downtown, in Silverlake, in West Hollywood, in Hollywood. I love my neighborhood and moved here knowing full well how vibrant the neighborhood was about to become.

However, if the club and restaurant scene AND residential scene that fuel the former are to flourish hand-in-hand, they must coexist. Honestly, aside from the Down and Out, which on occasion leaves its doors open and plays music too loudly, the other clubs have all been very respectful of its neighbors. The Down and Out, to my knowledge, has adjusted its noise level as well. The problem is rather with drunk idiots who don't understand the idea of leaving clubs quietly. I don't know if you realize this, but when people in New York leave clubs, they understand about being quiet because they live in dense neighborhoods, not to mention that NYPD doesn't put up with that kind of behavior, period. L.A. clubgoers, whether living in dense neighborhoods or in Huntington Park, have to train themselves to behave appropriately when leaving clubs. It really is that simple.

We can all get along and coexist. And by the way, I really like L.A. Live.

Great job LA Cafe! :) Anyone remember the place before them - they made crepes and just never had business! I'm really proud to have seen LA Cafe grow and prosper! Great business and great food.

I've since moved but I miss Ben, the LA Cafe crew and everyone from Spring Towers! Maybe we'll stop on by this weekend and give everyone a bit of custom! :)

Can't agree with you more - SinoSoul. It's been about a decade since I last had dinner at the Pantry. Tom Owen was with me that night; Tom always liked to regale anyone he was with with facts, minutiae and all sorts of tales out of L.A. history. He was L.A.'s Rainman! Not only was the food lousy, but they told us to hurry it up and move on, as well. Yeah, gotta make more bucks for Dickie Riordan. As if the latter didn't make a killing selling the land for Grand Hope Park to the CRA!

Next time I had dinner with Tom was at Musso & Franks. Talk about service! And the staff, they all knew Tom from years back. They had to kick us out so they could close for the night. Never saw him again. He died six or seven months later; I was shocked/amazed to see his obit in the Times.

What a character. I only wish that I coulda been there the day that he ran into Ms. Hepburn along the trail back behind Lake Hollywood. She was the one and only dame on this planet who could impress him and he ran right smack into her!
