L.A. Live Starbucks Testing Late-Night Hours

The Starbucks at L.A. Live started serving drinks from its high-tech Clover machine on February 1.

Looking for a middle-of-the-night caffeine fix? With the opening of the new hotel tower at L.A. Live, the entertainment complex's Starbucks is testing out a 2am close time. It's a three-month trial, but the store will make the new hours permanent if the business is there.

Starting this week, the 2am close will take place every night except for Sunday, when the store will shut down at 1am.

It's kind of ironic that coffee beheamoth will "test" staying open "late" (2 a.m. late?) when the original local coffee houses that I used to go to before I'd heard of Starbucks were places that we went after the bars closed at 2 a.m. You could grab coffee, dessert and gaze at art, somewhat sobering up before the drive home. Remember Van Gogh's Ear? And I wish I could remember the name of that little place on 6th (or was it 3rd?) near La Brea...what fun. But that was like the 80's--ancient history.

Three months is enough time for we students at nearby Loyola Law School to make it through finals. Thank God.

That's great, but if I'm correct there's no free parking anywhere near there, unless Starbucks validates. Who wants to pay more for parking than their cup of coffee?

@Vero=There's always the Bourgeois Pig in Franklin Village but that's kinda far. Closer to home and 24 hrs is L.A. Cafe, but their coffee kinda sucks, and there's no indoor ambiance, although sidewalk is cool too. Syrup has good coffee, but they close at midnight.

If you go to LA Live parking for less the 15-20 minuets they never charge me. I go in and out all the time and get my coffee. The LA Starbucks is the only one that has the Clover Machine so I only go to that one.

I'm glad to see that Starbucks is testing new things, and I believe that there are people who would benefit from a coffee drink late at night - the question is if it would be economically good for Starbucks to do so and only testing will tell.

the starbucks on 2nd and central used to be open 'til 2a, even before the big influx. don't know if they still stay open that late, but we can certainly use more late-night coffee houses down here. starbucks has 24-hour stores sprinkled around manhattan...they do very well. but NYC is a concentrated, accessible 24-hour city. LA: notsomuch.
