DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — Given the meteoric rise in Downtown's bar and nightlife scene over the past ten years, organic spirit maker may just be on to something in relocating its eco-friendly production to the southern edge of the Arts District.
The bottler, which produces TRU organic vodkas, TRU2 organic gin, CRUSOE organic rums, FRUIT LAB organic liqueurs, BAR KEEP organic bitters and IXÁ organic tequila, currently operates out of Monrovia.
The company was started by husband-and-wife team Melkon Khosrovian and Litty Mathew in 2004.
Last week they got approvals for $300,000 from the Community Redevelopment Agency, the last pieces of funding needed for a $1.7 million move to the southeast edge of Downtown at 2459 E. 8th Street. $950,000 of that will go into acquiring the 11,000-square-foot warehouse building next to the 10 freeway.
In a press release put out Monday, the redevelopment agency said that its loan will allow GreenBar to purchase "a grain mill and elevator, boiler, fermentation tanks, infusion chambers, storage racks and other equipment."
