Downtown Loses Its Cherry Street, Becomes "L.A. Live Way"

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — Cherry Street became a historical sidenote on Monday, as the short South Park street's signs were changed to read "L.A. Live Way."
The .46 mile span runs between the 110 freeway and the entertainment complex, also paralleling the Convention Center.
AEG had submitted an application to the city asking for the change on August 4, 2009. In it, the company said that the new name would "improve the identity of the area and allow for improved directional signage."
Taking a look at the site on Google Maps actually shows a slightly older piece of history. It — itself a stretch of 11th Street renamed in 2002 — reflecting a time when a number of short streets dotted the area first taken over by the freeway, then the Convention Center and finally L.A. Live.
