DTLA Resident Card Eric Richardson []

Josh Gray-Emmer of AP Consulting LA holds up a pair of sample DTLA Resident Cards.

Signups for the move to South Park this week, with a team from AP Consulting LA setting up shop outside the Starbucks at 11th and Grand on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11am to 5pm.

Nearly 500 Downtowners signed up for the card over two weeks of signups outside the Historic Core's LA Cafe. The program is designed to give Downtown businesses an easy way to offer discounts to those who live in their neighborhood.

The first of those cards are being delivered this week.

More signup locations, including later hours for those working during the day, will be coming shortly, says Josh Gray-Emmer of AP Consulting.

Why can't I just show my license or ID as proof of residency? Why do I need a special card? This is some Josh Gray-Emmer BS.

LOLOL - Love all the comments, thanks. We'll be doing special weekend and night-time sign-ups soon. To answer the Guest comment - most people in Downtown seem have ID's that say they're from elsewhere. We wanted something simple, free and uniform, easy to recognize for local business. What if someone didn't have an local Drivers License? I would hate to make someone pay for something that everyone else gets for free.

Honestly, not everyone goes to FIDM, is an Artist or works at Starbucks. A good majority of the residents in downtown work a typical 9-5, it seems a little counterintuitive to repeatedly have time slots working against the corporate system.
Cheers

Guest - You could not be more correct. We will have to add nighttime locations such as bars, clubs and restaurants to see this really succeed. However, for the time being, we have only so many volunteers, and we have to work within their available hours. If you would like to help sign people up we are ALWAYS looking for locals who want to get involved.

Sorry that was super rude of me. Would you believe by "Josh Gray-Emmer BS" I meant blatantly strategizing?

no luck huh? My apologies.

It would have been nice if whoever was supposed to be at Starbucks today from 11 AM to 5 PM actually stayed until 5 PM. I got there at 4:45, and whoever was supposed to be there had packed up and left.

I was so happy to be approached by the DWTN LA resident card advocates today outside my building at 11th and Grand! My husband and I walked up to Cafe LA two weekends ago to get our cards...only to find they had left for the day! It is this type of grass-roots organization that makes being a downtown resident the valuable experience that it is. Thank you to all who put effort in to make this possible! We can't wait to save and support the businesses that make this urban experience possible!

Will there be any signups after this weekend? I work during the day and will be out of town for Memorial Day weekend. It would be great if you had more signups June 5-6.

Has anyone gotten their card yet? We took ours when it first started.

Josh Gray-Emmer on May 28, 2010, at 10:29AM – #14

Hello fellow Downtowners!!

Due to popular demand signups have been moved back to LA Cafe for a NIGHT SHIFT from 6pm to 11pm.

If you signed up for a card, ask your security desk if they have them for you. All cards will be handed out by Monday at the latest.

Cheers!

Josh

This is the right web site for the program, isn't it? I don't see any upcoming dates or other future info on there, and I am not going to sign up for Twitter just to get this info.

It seems like a neat idea, but the information isn't being passed out very reliably, is it?

Got my card yesterday! :-)
