LAPD Lawn Reopens

It may have a few brown spots from the recent heat wave, but the lawn outside the LAPD's new headquarters is open and green for the first time in nearly ten months.

Sod was installed in mid-July, but the space remained closed off until this week while the new grass was given time to take root.

The 2nd Street space had been open to the public for just two months when a tent was installed atop it for the Police Foundation's "True Blue" gala. While the foundation was quick to accept blame for the lawn damage, an insurance dispute dragged out the process of replacement.

Hopefully, next time when there's a big event, this park isn't used for a parking lot. Maybe people can walk a block or two the garages on Spring street or massive parking lots on 3rd, Main, and Los Angeles.

LAofAnahiem- it wasn't used as a parking lot. Were you even there?

There is still a little missing piece. It is between the palm trees on the far west side. How incompetent can they be?

Why is this landscaped as a lawn?

People let your dogs pee and poop elsewhere or on the dirt path where at least the poop can be reasonably cleaned up and then bring your dog to the lawn to play. As hard ad you try you know that you can not clean up all your dog's business from the grass and no grass can live when it is consistently urinated on.

The grass is already 25% dead. They let it go too long without watering and cutting... idiots!

I've been wanting to take my son there to play a little soccer (the only other grass is at FIDM park which we love, Cornfields sort of requires a car)

I don't know why people keep complaining about this patch of lawn when all the rest of the landscaping around the building is drought resistant. I feel like those complaining have never seen all the beautiful tiered succulent plantings on the other side of the building. You can have a bit of grass if you save in other places.
