DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — After having been pushed through City Council, the effort to extend the hours of the Red Line subway over the holidays takes another step forward on Thursday when it comes before the Metro Board of Directors. Directors Bernard Parks and Antonio Villaraigosa made the motion, which would direct Metro CEO Roger Snoble to implement the pilot.
The Metro motion notes that "numerous private entities voiced their support for the pilot program and it appears that a majority of the necessary $85,500 has been identified." It places a deadline of October 17th for all funds to be committed.
As written, the motion indicates Friday / Saturday service between November 1, 2008, and January 3, 2009. Discussions have indicated that it's more likely service would not be implemented until November 14.

The Red line NEEDS to be 24 hours all the time!! I cannot understand why this is not already the case. The main reason that people do not ride the subway for nightlife activities is because it stops before bars and nightclubs close! THis is a serious problem in the LA subway system and it should be corrected IMMEDIATELY! -J
