DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — High Speed Rail, the Regional Connector and the L.A. Streetcar will be among the topics of conversation at "Transportation 2020," a town hall event being held on Monday evening at The Exchange.
In theory, the three projects should all be up and running by 2020, creating a very different picture of transportation in and through Downtown L.A. than the one that exists today.
Monday's event is designed to give updates on each of the projects and to create a conversation about how Downtown's overall transportation picture functions.
The Regional Connector, a light rail link between Metro's Blue and Expo lines at 7th & Metro and the Gold Line and Gold Line Eastside Extension in Little Tokyo, should finish environmental work next year and could be operational by 2016 if funding is found. The L.A. Streetcar, proposed to connect the Convention Center and Bunker Hill by way of Broadway, is currently starting its environmental process, and is targeted for operation in 2014. The High Speed Rail project would link Los Angeles with Anaheim and northern California. Voters approved a nearly $10 billion bond issue in 2008, and the project recently received $2.3 billion from the federal government.
The Exchange is located at 114 W. 5th. Monday's town hall is scheduled to go from 6 - 8:30pm. From 6 - 6:30pm, attendees will be able to check out exhibits and ask questions of the individuals projects. A program will run from 6:30-8:30pm.
